Poppy Day 2007

On the 1st November 2007 the Cheyenne Cub Pack met at the Post Office in Hedge End and walked up to the Cenotaph by St. John's Church. Once there, Akela told us to find a name on the Cenotaph, and then for cubs homework that following week we had to write a poem about the person we had picked from the Cenotaph. We could use the library and the Internet to find out information. Unfortunately no one could find any information about the names we had picked, so we all wrote poems about the Great War.

The next week we met as usual at the cub lodge to build a poppy wreath to be placed on the Cenotaph at the Remembrance Sunday parade. During this meeting we had to make lots of poppies to stick on our wreath. Akela then told us that she was going to choose the two best poems to put on the wreath, and the winners would carry the wreath at the parade.

Luke's Poem Henri's Poem

He died for me,
that was so brave.
And now he lies
in a cold, dark grave.

He did not know,
what his fate would be. Henri carried the wreath during the march.

I placed the wreath on the Cenotaph and saluted during the service.

Still showed such
courage and bravery.

A poppy flower,
we wear with pride.
Thank God these men,
were on our side.
